shift linkage ?

I am having intermittant stall problems. When the car stalls I cannot restart the car in neutral and the steering wheel locks. So the only way I can start the car when I stall, which only happens during decelartion and turning, I have to start her up in OD.

Someone mentioned in General Tech that it is due to the shift linkage and if I do not have it adjusted, I will fry the tranny.

Is this true and what kind of damage am I looking at. Is the damage due to starting it in OD and not neutral.

I will be taking her to a tranny shop for the adjustment. How much am I looking at?

Any advice and help is greatly appreciated since I am no tranny expert.

Charge should be maybe 1/2 hr and that is alot. They can adjust but you could too. It is the rod that connects the shifter to the column. It also sets BU lights and neutral safety. Sent car in reverse with car not running. Set rod so you split the difference in the backup lights coming on and going off. This should be close. Then you can manipulate the rod to get perfect. Adjustment is under drivers side just below exhaust flange. 15 mm bolt that holds rod. You can do it Nikki!!!! Good Luck.. Bruce

So in essence, I just need to play with the length of this rod. I do not have to move left, right, clockwise, counterclockwise

I put the car in R(not running) with EBrake on of course and adjust for the half way point of the BU lights coming on and going off. Correct!!!

I know. I can read. But I just want to make this clear. Also if this is out of whack what damage in the tranny could have occured.
