When racing a turbo Buick, is it common practice to allow the trans to shift into overdrive, or does one only use the first three gears? And do most people use the stock shift points, or is it beneficial to shift at higher RPM? What's YOUR shift point? :)

So what about all you 10sec guys? Does ANYBODY use non-stock shift points or Overdrive?

put it in drive and go . why would you want to shift into overdrive while racing . it dont make no sense .

I put it in 2nd on the line, 1st to 2nd is too fast. Therefore if I started in 1st, sometimes I would miss the shift. I do however shift it into 3rd at 5200.

shift points are determined by your specific combo....with heads and a bigger cam, most folks shift at 5500 and up...my car shifts at 5600, although it makes power to 6000 (engine life seems to decline rapidly above 5500 or so with a stock block)

I have my governor modified to make consistent 5600 rpm shifts, so I just leave it in Drive

unmodifed transmissions usually shift 4800-5000 at WOT.....a stock or mildly upgraded engine is usually done at 5000

do not use overdrive

I don't know. That's why I asked.

I leave it in D and the car shifts by itself at about 5600. (11.10@123)
