Shifter has been broken for a while but now as I'm working on car it's getting annoying. Shiter moves freely in both directions and I'm thinking the plastic " insert is snapped off I have A new handle/button assembly but what parts/parts do I need ? See photos

Shifter moving without depressing button is most likely a broken J-rod Shifter Spring. It holds up the white plastic piece in your shifter shaft. Also, I don't see a Locking Clip in any of your photos. You'll need one to keep the shifter handle in place.

Thanks- Would anybody have a picture/diagram of the spring & who might have one?

If you look around inside the console you should find th pieces of the spring. . Take a measurment (rough length) and buy an assortment from the hardware store..

I found the replacement I ended up using was much stiffer to press the shifter in.. Easy fix I think I spent a dollar in springs. .

Thanks guys, around $4 in springs ,some patients and a little persistence is about it;missing the retaining clip-shouldn't be a biggie . Might as well take out clean up/lithium grease.Pressing down on white tab, shifter operates as it should but positioning handle on the stalk depressing the button does not engage the shifter: button has spring pressure...am I missing something?

Possible the white nylon rod isnt making contact with the mechanism for the shifter handle when you press the button?

If so you can lengthen the rod inside by turning the nylon rod inside the chrome rod.. I forget but one way lowers other raises it out.

Experiment by putting the handle on and off. Once she is where it needs to be secure it with the staple clip and voila..

Thanks again, I'm thinking this spring too tightly wound but button will operate mech.
