Shock collers

I know that this question is way off the topic but i was wondering if anyone knows anything about shock collers. I need one for the wife er... i mean dog. My dog is always jumping on me and you are supost to put your knee out into the dogs chest to correct this behavor but every time I do that she trys to hump my leg. I have looked at some of them on the internet but ther expensive and i dont want to get one that is a pice of junk. Has anyone here tryed them and what are your experences with them.

I bought one for my Basset hound named Walter.

Nice dog but dumber than a brick. Actually, I think he was incapable of learning much if anything.

If someone would have broken into our house he would have licked em to death

When you got out of site of Walter he would start to bark. And bark....And bark. For hours.
I couldn't stand it. The neighbors couldn't stand it.

I bought a shock collar as a last resort. Hated to do it.

Walter understood that, real quick. That was about the only thing.

When he barked, it poked him.

He would literally stand there and shake like he was ready to explode if he couldn't bark.

One time I had the voltage turned up a little too high and the meter man came and Walter barked.
It poked him and he yelped. It poked him again and he yelped again.....and again....and again.
I had to run out and tackle him and hold his mouth shut.

I felt really bad. Good thing I was home.

If you buy a collar turn the power down to it's lowest level and bring it up slowly till the dog understands. Don't go too high.

I bought one for my hyper, jumping black lab named Teebo. I believe the brand was PetSafe. I picked it up at either Petco or Petsmart. It worked pretty well. Only had to use it for like a month or two. I agree with Steve about watching the setting. If it is too high the dog will whimper and whine. I found that Teebo responded to a fairly low setting once the collar was adjusted to fit his neck properly.

I leant it to a family member. They liked it so well that they kept it. (Otherwise I could tell you for sure which brand it was.)

They don't work on the wife, science has yet to design a device to shut them up.

I have been thinking of getting one for my half-retarded dog and I've wondered....has anybody seen any kind of relapse after the collar comes off?

We had an Invisible Fence system for our Rottweiler "SLAYER" years ago. It was definately effective in letting him know where he could & could not go. However, a 150# Rott will run thru any Invisible Fence (or other shock collar pet containment system) if he so desires! Teaching the dog where the boundaries are is the main thing with a shock collar. If you teach them right, then they'll never get close enough for the collar to "sound off", much less shock them. Good luck with it.

I have 5 dogs and 3 shock collars

If used correctly they are a godsend.

side story, me and a buddy were playing with his dogs new shock collar, it didn't seem to bother the dog to much when it went off, so he decided to strap it to his knee while he was sittng on the couch and test it, on its lowest setting and a quick tap of the button made his leg jump out straight and rigid, and he fell to the ground screaming, i laughed so hard i about choked on my beer, thats a lesson to ya i thought, but the sound of my buddy when he hit that button makes me smile to this day

If you have a female dog that humps your leg you may have bigger issues

we used to have one of those invisible fence collars with the wire in the ground. worked great. we moved and the dog (shed really dumb) still thinks we have the fence and wont' go into the living room or past the gates and into the driveway.

i think it would work great for training the dog do to something. i know they do hurt like a mother, so go easy on the dog.
