Shock recommendations for the old Suburban...

OK, I need recommendations for a new set of shocks for my '99 suburban. 5.7 2WD every option available. I do tow with it sometimes , not much though. I have been running sensa-tracs for 50K miles and replaced them once under the lifetime warranty they have. I think they are a little harsh of a ride though, maybe just age on them again.


Looking for something reasonably priced that provides a great ride on the highway. What do you guys recommend?

I usually buy KYB but have used Monroes in the past. Always gas and usually the truck ones. I'd like Bilstiens but they just don't fit my budget.

I have a set of Gabriel Ultras on my '94 K-1500 and I like them. Good shock for a good price. Ride is nice and smooth too.

Seems like the Monroe Magnums and Gabriel Ultras would be a good fit for what I need. Any thoughts on the Magnums? good or bad?

You call a 99 suburban old? :smile: I have a 66 that I drive every day. tows pretty good.
I put a set of monroe gas shocks on it when I built it. It drove and handled really really bad. I put a set of rancho adjustables on it and it was nite and day better. Now it just handles really bad. (just one really... ) Its still a 66.... You can pick up the ranchos on ebay for pretty cheap if you look. see ya ! Steve

its a 350 splayed cap dart block with all good internals. twins, accel gen VII . 4L80E with tci TCU and tci paddle shifters. 373 12 bolt. A/C .power windows,tilt, big stereo, sway bars, quick ratio power steering ect.... runs strong. 14 lbs boost. I think it makes a little power ... its fun to spank a porsche or vette in a truck that looks like a hillbilly owns it.
