Hey guys,

I am in the middle of doing the timing chain and all associated goodies. My question is while im in there, should I upgrade the cam?..... I cant go to a roller set up right now, but is it worth while to just do a flat cam, lifters, and maybe valve springs?

What do you guys think?? and any advice on the size and type of cam??/

86 GN: Car is mostly stock right now, intake, maf, and thats about it.

Thanks!

Are you making full use of the stock cam now? The stocker pulls to about 5200RPM. If you're not shifting at 5000-5100 and running through the traps at 52 or 5300, then a hotter cam isn't really going to do much for you.

Newer / better valve springs is always a good idea. With good springs a stock cam can go a bit higher. Another 1-200RPM.

Plus there's the risk of wiping a lobe on a brand new cam and really making a mess of the motor.

1fast6: thanks for the link.... lots of good information.

Betav8: I doubt that i am using the stock cam to its max, i was just wondering if its worth while since im tinkering in the area. And I am interested in upgrading the valve springs as well. looking at the Kirban valve springs.... are they a good choice??

Thanks

Yes the Kirban springs are fine.
