Should I? This is on a nearly stock car. If not, at what point should I start locking it when my car is faster. Currently my car runs about an 8.6@81 in the 1/8.

Just lock it at the line before staging.
It won't lock until 2nd gear anyway, and you'll be in 2nd before the 1/8th timers.

As long as you have enough octane to stave off the retard the excess load can cause, you should pick up about .2 seconds and 2 mph by flipping the lock up switch at the line.

Even in the 1/8th mile? If so, you will have just given me what I need to get in the 7's! thanks!

I used to run 1/8 mile a lot (the track was 4 miles from my house) and it ALWAYS picked up in the 1/8 mile by locking the converter.

I could tell at the timeslip booth when I forgot to lock it.

switch?

Dont you need a paper clip and 2 minutes under the car to lock the converter ? or are you guys referring to a switch underneath, or a switch thats put in.

A paper clip can be used in the ALDL port under the dash OR you can run a switch across the same wires (especially if you want to run turbolink at the same time)

A switch is better than the paper clip because you can lock it when you want and unlock it to keep the car from "chugging" down the return road (locked at low RPM's in second)

Switchs are only a couple bucks at radio shack. .2/2 mph for $2.

Hmm that sounds like a good idea, ill have to check into that. That, with my exh, valve springs, timing gear, power plate, and cleaned out ic, should get me my 12.99999 that I deserve. Are the aldl wires shown on gnttype.org ?
