I have a 1984 GN that I was planning to restore. Everytime I dig deeper I find more rust. Doors, quarters, spot on deck lid and the floors are GONE!! Engine needs a rebuild...something let go while sitting in my garage and left me with five quarts on the floor  Anyway, I hate to let it go it's a true GN with t-tops, posi and digital dash....but it needs tooo much for my ability level.

However, here's the thing. I let this one go...part it out. I'm looking at two possible replacements. hamer's here on the forum and another one. Hamer's needs work, but it has all the same goodies mine does, plus floors and doors :D He wants ~3500.

The other one is 100%...super nice in and out. Newly upholstered Lears seats, engine is immaculate. The whole damn car is really nice....about as nice as 84's come. Only problem is it's a hard top car (could be good, but I like T's), doesnt have digital dash and may not be a posi car. To make it a little tougher the thing's in TN. This one I can get my hands on for 4500 FIRM!!

Now, should I go with Hamer's which sounds like it needs some pretty extensive engine work and interior redone? Or should I go with the hardtop car, live without the T-tops and use any spare money on go fast goodies...

Decisions, decisions.....anyone have input?

Oh and sorry for the long ass post.

Ask yourself a few questions: Do you want a car to restore? Or do you want a car that is already restored?
Once you answer these questions, go from there.

HARDTOP BABY!!! 4500 for an immaculate car? I would never let that pass by. My car came to me in ok shape for 2500, before all the problems came out of the wood work. The body of my car is in damn good shape minus the ds door. other than that, no leaks from anything, no digital dash, but who wants digital? lol...just more eletrical problems to me. Anyway, I have a hardtop, and I will never have to worry about leaking seals, flexing tops at higher torqe or speed, and best of all, I can always add em or a sunroof if I really, really wanted to. If this car is too far away, see if for a small fee like 150 bux or sumthin, if that guy would meet you somewhere with the car. make a deal, and get that show car if it is in that good of shape. 4500 is a steal, but make sure it is a damn nice car to go through the trouble...See it at least once in person before even considering, and if you like what you see, leave a deposit, get a recipt, and come back with a flatbed or plates to drive it home with!!!

Good luck!

It definitely would not suck to have a driver right off the bat...didn't think we would have that option in the price range we had in mind. 4500 is a little out of that range, but like I said this car is nice.

RACEMYBUICK:
If I do this I will be parting out my present 84 GN...could get your T-Type just that much closer to cloning a GN. Rims, LEARS interior (which requires some attention)...
Also, if I go the 13 or so hours to look at this car it will be a one time thing. I either bring her home or I don't. There won't be any second trip. From what I've seen and heard though it's probably worth the trip.

13 hours is a long haul. If you do go, bring yourself a scantool if possible, and a flashlight. One thing I have learned with these cars, aside from rusting doors, is rust inside the left fender in the trunk. Look down where the carpeting ends, just behind the wheel from the inside of the trunk. If it has rot, then you need to get under the car and find out how much. That is a darn good indicator of what type of car you have. Let me know what you do with your car in the mean time, @ racemyuick@aol.com. Good luck man, hope you get it! I am always worried that the offer will not be there if I pass it up, but just my own opinion. Good luck!

Looking like a done deal. I should have the car, weather permitting, in less than a week. I don't have a scan tool or access to one, but I have lots of flashlights. ;) And I assure you...I will be searching for rust after my last experience. I'm much wiser now for my mistakes.

Thanks for the good wishes on getting the car.
