my turbo recently started smoking. so i want to buy a rebuilt one. i drive it everyday so i cant send mine off. do u think i should stick with a stocker again or upgrade to a ta-49. i usually dont go to the track. i just like street racing. i will probably never run over 20 psi in it. i have all the basic mods now injectors, chip, pump etc.

I would definitely upgrade to a TA-49. It is a good all around turbo and works well with the stock torque convertor.

If I were you I'd upgrade to the TA49. It will spool up just as quick or quicker than the stock turbo and it'll have all the great street manners the stock turbo has. You probably won't notice much of a difference between the stock turbo and the 49 until the boost is turned up to about 18-20 psi. What chip and injectors do you have? If you don't have one yet, I would suggest you get a 3" down pipe from one of the various vendors like Terry Houston or ATR. BTW, how many miles does the stock turbo have?

Hell yes....

The TA49 is what should have come on these cars to begin with. To be fair, at anything other than WOT, you won't see any appreciable difference. The full-throttle gains are definitely worth the extra $$, especially since this is your daily driver. Overall, you'll see absolutely no downsides whatsoever.

Your best price WILL come from Quad Air (Red Armstrong). Give them a ring at (440) 235-3232. You'll need to have your chip(s) updated, as well.

im using a thrasher chip, which i like cause anti-theft. will i have to ditch it? does thrasher make a chip for that turbo? also have 30# disc injectors, walbro, hotwire, 2 3/4 bg downpipe. my stock turbo has 127,000 on it. not bad for original turbo. i also have original coil pack too.

anyone buy a turbo from this newton place, they post in the parts section. the turbos are pretty cheap. if any one has bought one through them, lets hear some feedback.

30# injectors aren't enough for a TA49 when you turn the boost up above 18 psi. On the street, in street trim, your car will run fine. If you like the thrasher chips and want to run more than 18 psi of boost, you'll need to go to 36# Bluetops and get thrashers for bluetops. This is great mod if you want to run low 12's to mid 11's and have the advantages of the thrasher chips.

18 psi would be enough for me now. maybe someday ill turn it up more. i dont really care about quarter mile times, i just want to be able to embarass this mustang i raced the other day. he thinks he would have beat me if it was a full 1/4 mile, even though i was ahead and pulling on him. he got a windsheild full of smoke when i passed him. we raced a little over an 1/8 mile due to flooding.
