Just cruisin' on a trip, when the 5 disk locks and unlocks, is it as bad as I heard the 7 disc was? Is it harsh or pretty smooth like a D5?

Thanks for the answers. If I regain lockup, (new solenoid needed), I will try locking the D5 first per Mikey's instructions. :)

This is for a PTE51 turbo.

Then we shall try the Vigilante for a limited number of passes so I can retire the car happily. I will use Quick89's recommendation on that one.

Steve, if I asked someone who actually knew it wouldn't be any fun. ;)

All you 5 and 7 disk Vigilante owners start your own threads! :D

Thanks for the replies!!!!!

just to respond to TTA89........my point was, I believe the D5 slips when locked under power....and the more often it is locked, the more it slips ( it is, after all, a clutch).......the Vig multi does not slip....it is another gear! If your D5 works, go for it by all means!

I still say locking a single disk Vig (at WOT) is asking for trouble(unless it is a 2200 stall) it is your $$$

Woody if the D5 gets me .2 and 3-4 mph there will probably be no need to put the Vigilante in this car. :)

I hear ya!

salvageV6: Take a look at my sig, I run the single disk Vigilante. The 1.54 60' was with a 5# launch(!).

I'm very happy with Precision and their customer service. See a past thread I started on them...

The times posted, 11.58@115 (car running like cr@p) were from this past weekend. One of the runs I locked the convertor in third gear and got 117.3mph out of it. From past experience I'd say that I see a consistent 2 mph, but I hardly everlock it up. Yes, the RPM's will drop a bunch... maybe somewhere close to 1,000RPM (as already mentioned). Don't quote me on that - I'd have to pull up some old DirectScan files to be sure. If I had the money though, I'd get the multi disk.

P.S. With a 15# launch (old motor combo) I've seen as much as 4450RPM stall on the line.

-Banning.

I have some Direct Scan files with 4400rpm and 0mph holding around 19-20psi at the line with the stock convertor. Just for Reference ;)

I dont think its slipping at all when its locked. Like you said its a clutch thats engaged so its NOT slipping. When it slips is when the clutch isnt engaged.

Either way I agree that I wouldnt lock a single vig at WOT. :)

With the PT51 its going to be Lazy with the D5 leaving the line but if you build enough boost it was good for 1.5 60fts in my car

Locking it up will get you at least another 2mph. Try it and see how it works, Thats half the fun :)

Half the fun is not breaking anything and driving home. The other half of the fun is having a good time slip to bring home with the car.

The rest is just thrashing... :D

I'll see how it runs with the D5 and some lockup. Can't wait to get some gas mileage back too. ;)

I have Nittos so there won't be any 1.5 60fts. anytime soon.

All I'm looking for is a very low 12 at that altitude. And I will try to leave with more boost next time. :)

And at the risk of scaring off the real racers we're talking street trim here with a splash of GT100. :D
