i dont know how to exactly explain this problem ...but i will do my best ...i just put the cpt-65 on and it doesnt seem to have the kick my old pt-51 had on the street .... i can boost up to 6lbs on the line and launch like crazy but if im driving along at say ... 30mph and i punch the gas...it doesnt break the tires loose.... or even throw me against the seat ...im thinking its my converter and i need to get it readjusted to 3500 to get the same feeling or better that i had with my 51 setup ..this is kind of annoying because i just spent so much money and now i will probably have to end up spending more money to get it fixed....any ideas?

i get the same boost but it doesnt feel as strong 19-21psi...no knock

Well,

20 PSI with a 51 is the same as 20 PSI with a 65.

I'm not familiar with Cotton's line-up. What is the equivalent of the 65 in the LE or PTE line-up?

Is it a BB turbo?

You don't say how fast your car goes?

Is there a flange leak between the exhaust manifold and turbo?

Did you try taking out some fuel?

:D

Why did you switch in the first place? There is a penalty to pay every time you go with a bigger turbo. You are probably right about the stall though. what do you have now, 3000?

Duh I see the 3200 stall. There is no point in getting a bigger turbo when you are going to toodle around at 20psi. I bet you would see a big difference when you turn up the wick over 25psi

a cpt-65 is slightly smaller than a te-45(a?) from john craig...its basically jacks version made by innovative ..... its not a bb ..i dont have any times yet ....but there is a small leak in the flange...but its only before it warms up ... the area between the header and the turbo spits a bit of water and then goes away when its hot (this water could be an entirely different problem .... anyone?) im not 100% sure what you mean by taking out some fuel...do you mean turn the fuel pressure down?
thanks

i switched for the same reason most ppl do ...i wanted more power....i realize...now....somewhat that this turbo is more for the track ...but if i can find some way to make it spool faster than i would be 100% happy with it

Yup, that's a pretty big turbo. I have a 63E on a strip only car, and a 52 on a street only car.

Make sure you have NO exhaust leaks, and if the combination of your adjustable FPR and thumbwheel let you lean out the bottom end the car might spool a little better...

:)

The water you're seeing there is normal condensation during warmup. Add some Ultra copper to that joint the next time you have the turbo off to get a better seal there.

Wes

I have the same turbo you have, and mine is slow to spool on the street also. I have it set at 16psi on the street but the car just gets up and goes above 20. I'm gonna get alky kit and crank it up on the street. Other than that its a great strip turbo. I still got plenty left in it. Good luck.
