My wife and i have a stock 85 with a recent turbo seal problem.
I would like to buy a new turbo that is bigger than stock.
The plans are to achieve 350 hp.
What would be the best turbo for this application as well as other upgrade suggestions to get this kind of horse power?
Any info would be appreciated from other enthusiasts.

Well it depends how far you want to go into the motor, and unless you go with an intercooler your turbo selection is very limited 1-2 without some custom fabrication. If you want to keep it stock as far as looks and no intercooler i would suggest this:
send your turbo out to get upgraded to a 33 model then it will flow twice as much air and still bolt in stock location. $600-800
get a walbro 340 fuel pump with hot wire about $160
get a adjustable fuel regulator about $100
go to gnttype.org and do the 87 ecm swap under the tech sect. getting the parts from a junkyard will run you about $50-100
get 50-60 lb injectors $325-375
get a atr downpipe for $125-150
a hooker cat back with test pipe $300
have a chip burned for it with all this stuff installed $50-100:confused:
get a k&n cone filter $50
fix any header cracks or leaks, cracks can be welded $0-75
then tune the car with as much boost without any knock.
and if that doesnt do it get an alky injection kit $400-500. it will take some time and money but it can be done with just bolt ons. While you are at gnttype.org do the spring cleaning before you do any of this. Have fun and dont be discouraged.

The turbo seal problem can be a result of a pressurized block. I would replace the stock oil fill cap with a KN breather unit. Brad

You can buy one used or most vendors on the board sell them.
You will need a fuel pressure gauge to read.

stock regulator is 36-40#'s.
So with more boost 40-45#'s.
Really depends on the car and mods.
You need an upgraded fuel pump also.
A scan tool helps also.

thanks 85-t and brad for your help and info going into the motor isnt a real concern but keeping the car stock looking as much as possible is the goal. Our car was purchased 3 yrs ago and managed to put on a whopping 2000 k on it for a total of 112 thousand k original miles. The car was stored for 9yrs before we found it and has never had a body job and still has its show room condition shine .Its been a life long dream for us to have a gn know that we do its time to get it resdy to show the water bottle fed cars that the hotair cars just arnt there to sit on the side lines to watch. With all all the tips and help i can get to turn the car into a real torque monster would be greatly apprciated thanks again and keed the tech tips and mods comming .Thanks bruce:cool:
