i blew the head gasket a while ago and now i am finally rebuilding it. thinking taking off all the smog junk. any advice on if i should or shouldnt. pros v cons? i dont have a cat so i pay to pass it. so thats not an issue

i would leave it on... californias got some strict emissons laws, and suprise emessons testing.
 
Do you mean the smog pump or all emissions stuff? Without a converter, there is no need for the smog pump. It's job was to help the convertor function properly. You can remove the pump, valves and piping.

In general, there is no performance benefit to removing emissions equipment.
 
i think on car science they said for every 100 pounds you lose you gain .01 second i may be wrong on the exact number. the only bad thing is the states dont want you to revove it. the weigth saving is a postive.
