I just got a 87gn with 57000 miles. I was told ignition was messed up when I got it. It as a dis4 msd. The car would not crank with it hooked up, however, with it disconnected, running stock ignition it will crank but will not stay running without giving it gas. It appears to be smoking from turbo(alot) and has an exhaust leak. Any suggestions on where to start would be appreciated. I'm thinking the turbo has gone bad. thanks

Since you just got it - You need to check all the basics. I would get it running correctly with the stock ignition first, then take it from there.

You say it's smoking from the turbo. Where is the smoke coming from?

The exhaust leak needs to be fixed before you try to tune it.

Start with the basics:
The Grand National / T-Type / Turbo Regal Buick Spring Cleaning Guide
General Maintenance and Up Keep

Do you have a scan tool? Like a Scanmaster/etc? If not - it is quite a bit harder to tune these cars.

thanks for the response. it appears turbo and motor are bad. I have motor out of it now. was wondering if the main bolts, rod bolts,
and head bolts were reusable or it they are torque to yield and need replaced with rebuild. does anyone have any contact information for someone who can rebuild turbo or a good contact for somewhere to get a replacement. thanks

Head bolts are TTY, the rest can be reused. Some reuse the head bolts = but ARP replacements are cheap.

You're getting ahead of yourself. If the pan was clean inside I'd put the engine back in and start reading a lot more. See if there is someone in the area that can help

the reason i'm assuming motor is bad is because when it was running it has smoke that i thought was coming from
turbo pouring out of the valve covers. not a little. It has so much you couldn't even tell what was smoking until i removed
filler neck from valve cover and it looked like a steam locomotive. I appreciate the help. In my experience would think it must
have piston down. haven't taken it apart yet. motor still hanging from hoist. Could bad turbo cause all the smoking from valve covers.
if so how? Turbo does have oil pooling in inlet side of compressor and outlet side. There is oil pooling on the back of intake under the coilpacks as well. i could do leakdown prior to disassembling the engine. It just seemed like a waste of time with the amount of smoke and oil everywhere. However, if turbo could be causing the entire issue would not hurt my feelings.

Probably a head gasket

Bison you are the man. I took heads off today and is a blown headgasket. the exhaust leak is from a crack in the log. I am going to get log rewelded. Any headgaskets
better for these than others. Thanks for your input.
