I did some calling around to find out if anyone could wire a L/U switch for me.This is what I got.

Ace Transmissions

"Hi,I got a 200-4r and I need a switch ran so that I can manually lock and unlock the torque convertor."

"Uh,you'd have to contact FORD about that."

Next tranny place

"Oh,you mean the 700-r4?"
"No.The 200-4r."
silence
"You know, basically the 200 metric with overdrive"
more silence
"Uh,nope it cant be done"

And the next

"No dude, you just gotta get a new tranny."

After 10 more calls like this,I finally found someone who knew what the hell I was talking about. He's gonna wire it,put in a TransGo shift kit(i know),and add a tranny cooler for around $400.
Does that price seem about right?

 400 is high. You can do the switch and cooler your self and I wouldn't pay more than $150 to install shift kit if that. I paid 100 but had to drive 5hrs. Instruction are on gnttype site and should take less than an hour to do cooler/switch. There has to be someone within a few hours that knows these cars/tranny's. It's worth a little road trip. Good luck

I'll do it for $400.... LOL :D Like 87gn-newbee said your talking $150 in parts including l/u, shift kit and cooler. But to each his own, if you don't feel comfortable with doing it better to have someone else, but "BEWARE" of even the so called reputable shops, there are very few and even fewer that understand the2004r's

Contact Bruce Toelle, WE4 on this board, at PTS and get the cooler he recommends, his shift kit, and a new filter and maybe a TC solenoid (Bruce recommends a different one) while you're into it. I bet you can do the work and buy the parts for less than half that $400.

I have never done trans work before and just took my time with the valve body shift kit install. My 9 year old son even helped. You'll learn a lot and have the personal satisfaction of doing the job yourself. The instructions for hooking up the trans cooler and the LU switch are on gnttype.org. If you have a question on the shift kit, just post in the trans forum or call Bruce. He'll make sure it works out right. A hundred other people will give you the same advice.
