I don't seem to be losing fliud anywhere as the brake resovoir is at the full mark. The brake pedal is getting softer and brake light comming on more frequently the more the car is driven. Does anyone know what this could mean?

Pump the pedal three or four times and hold it. Does it stay in the same position as you hold steady pressure on it, or does the pedal drop further to the floor? When the pedals drops and the fluid level is O.K. it is good indication the master cylinder is leaking internally.

Finding a person at an auto parts store that knows what kind of master cylinder set up you have on your Turbo Buick is harder than replacing the master cylinder assembly. Should you decide to replace it I would recommend going to Carquest, Advance Auto parts, or Autozone and give them this part number “52-9702”. This is the part number for a complete power master unit. It is the whole assembly containing new electric motor, accumulator and master cylinder. Expect to pay around 300 dollars with exchange for this product that is remanufactured by A-1 cardone and comes with a lifetime guarantee. I replaced mine last summer, because I was having the same problem you are having. The part even came with instructions that were better detailed than my GM service manual.

By the way I noticed a huge difference in stopping after replacing this.

Hope this helps.

Good information. Thanks. Can I get a powermaster unit separate from the accumulator. If so, how can I determine which of the two is causing my problem? The pedal seems to hold up after puming it, but it's soft and will almost go to the floor after initilally applying the brakes. Could I just have air in the lines?

Yeah, I guess for $300 and change, I can't go wrong. Just want to make sure that the system does'nt just need bled. It seems if there was a leak somewhere, I would be losing fluid or pedal would drop to the floor.

if its the original system it wouldn't hurt to replace it and do a full bleed of the entire brake system anyway. thats what i'm going to do this weekend. its good piece of mind to be able to haul this big hunk of g-body down :D

heres the part number directly off of advance autos website and these do have a limited lifetime warranty.

Why screw around with it? redregal can set you up with a complete vaccume conversion kit for about $100--end of problem. Tommy
