*****It's for real. I used to have some of those figurines as a kid back in the late 70's, early 80's. My parents bought a few of them and kept them in a closet to give me every now and again at birthdays or whatever, and I ended up finding several again many years later in their original boxes. I was shocked to find several of the characters were worth $200-$400 each at these collector conventions, one of which came into my town one year. There are people who make a pretty decent living buying/selling this sort of stuff.
Star Wars figurines are hot right now. 10 years ago, lots of people were crazy over Beanie Babies and there was a store in our local mall that basically only sold those things and did great business for some time.
Anyway, the market decides on the going price thats reasonable given rarity, and other real and/or perceived values..
The Star Wars stuff didn't really mean much to me, but it did to others, so I sold it to them and made out well.
Most people don't care for my Turbo Buick, but I like it, and have spent a lot of money on it. Lots of people on this site would agree it's a nice car, but to the average Joe/Jane on the street it's just an old black car with a Jiffy lube symbol on the headrests..
