Speedo cluster question 85 GN

Just inherited an 85 from the father in law. Speedo works and boost gauge works and right turn indicator and that is it. But when you turn on the headlights.....no lighting comes on and no boost gauge. But that damn right turn indicator still comes on. I guess I should be thankful for that. Any advice??

pull the speedo put and clean all the contacts.
when you put it back together, verify that the "volt" light comes on when you turn the key to the "on" position but don't start it. no light means the alternator isn't activated and you will drain the battery.
