Speedometer adapter

I just got my trans back from the shop, and I can't put my hands on the speedometer adapter/driven gear unit that the spedo cable screws onto. Anyone know if the adapter with gear is still available, or am I looking for a used one if my original one doesn't turn up? I stil have a few places that it might be, but I am getting concerned. The trans was out of the car for a few years, so the adapter may have migrated. Any input is appreciated. Thanks, Counterman.

Is this a turbo regal 200-4r? If so then yes the correct driven gear and bullet is still available from GM. Also you could pick one up at your local trans shop used. Most don't take that out when sending in a trans so THEY may have it. If it has the correct orange governor gear then it needs a blue 30 tooth driven gear. I can dig the part number out from my info if you need it but I'm pretty sure I found it by either searching here or on TCI's site

Great! My trans does have the orange gear, as it is the original BRF unit the car came with. I appreciate your help. I need to check with my trans guy, as he may well have the adapter, as I don't recall removing it. Thanks again. Counterman.

Note:

If your running stock size tire, and rear end gear, then the stock (30 tooth) speedo gear is what you want. However, If you run a bigger tire, or lower gear in the diff, you can bring your speedo back to true MPH by changing this speedo gear to a different tooth number. My speedo use to read 10% low. I got a speedo gear with 10% less teeth (30-3=27 tooth) and perfecto.

Just thought I'd through this info out you or any one else.

You make a good point about the gear swap now. I am probably going to go to a 275/60 15 tire before putting this heap back into circulation. I have a 26 inch tall tire now, but the 275/60 would be 28, resulting in some speedo error. Thanks, Counterman.

If I have the GTA wheels on my GN, would I have to change out the driven gear, or the drive gear? Ive noticed a difference between my speedo and my SM cruising on the highway. Would I have to get one for a GNX, since the wheels are the same size?

The size of the wheel means nothing. It's the size of the tire that matters. If you choose a 26" tire or something very close it will not affect your speedometer at all. There are numerous tire size calculators on the net to help you pick your size.
