Just a few questions during my rebuild process:
Is it necessary to remove the speedometer gear for case cleaning? Is so how does it come out? Is there a seal somewhere that I would have yo worry about? My last rebuild I did not do anything with it but I thought I should ask.
Which way do the torrington brgs get installed? The video I have says "black" side up but the ones I have are all silver, at least the ones that I removed? Is there a particular way for the application?

One other side note, can I purchase the pin that holds the shift linkage shaft in the case, mine is a little beat up?

The atsg manual has some illustrations on how the bearing should go.
I would take out the gov assembly if for nothing else to inspect it for function and all the pieces being in place.
You can use a nail for the shift shaft.
I'll look for my manual and see if I can find those illustrations.

theres a seal and oring on speedo bullit they need to be replaced if you put case in washer . Dark side of bearings go down .

Ok, but how does the speedo gear come out? Does it just pull out once the bolt is removed? I think I remember last time trying and could not get it. Thanks

They pull out & yes they tend to stick sometimes.

The speedo housing itself gets corroded into the case. Take off the hold down
bolt and then turn the speedo housing a few times back and forth to free it before
trying to pull it out of the case. It may help to spray some wd-40 on it while turning it.

I'm leaving it sit overnite with some WD-40. I cannot budge it. Tried tapping it with a hammer to free it up and nothing.

Channel Locks and a twist n pull. You have the bolt and holder out right?
