i have an 86 gn thats been havings some problems with stalling. i dont believe its the engine whatsoever, as its a new engine and it runs fine, whats happening is ill be cruising at, say even 25 mph and the power shuts completly off, then it comes right back on again but of course the engine dies out. also, in the moring when i turned the key to fire it up nothing happend, as if the starter wasnt getting any power at all, but when i shut the door suddenly it was able to start. this sounds to me like some sort of loose connections in the wiring but im not exactly sure where to look. we tightened down the ground battery terminal as it was slightly loose but i cant see how thatd be the whole problem. let me know of any suggestions, thanks, taylor

You mentioned that this is a new engine, so I'm assuming the engine went back in the car recently...There are several engine grounds that you need to check, that can all cause this issue.

1. Check the copper-like ground from the firewall (above the coilpack) for proper connection to the engine, through one of the top bellhousing bolts.

2. The engine wiring harness grounds in two places on the rear of the passenger-side cylinder head. Easy to miss or under-tighten when installing the engine.

3. Ensure that the negative battery cable going to the front of the passenger-side cylinder head is not only tight, but that its electrical path isn't obscured by paint on the head, in the threads, etc.

In general, follow the engine harness and battery connections closely, and ensure that all engine and chassis grounds are secure, and have good metal-to-metal contact. Keep it simple. You'll find it.

Good luck.

Check the orange wire plug by the battery. Also, the harness connection on the computer.
