If the star washer in the turbo is bowed, should I just flatten it out or should I replace it?

Can I run the turbo without it?

IIRC the washer being bowed is a sign of thrust bearing wear. It has allowed the shaft to move enough to deform the washer. You can replace it as a temporary fix. You may just be able to turn it around and use the bow going in the opposite direction. But basically, it is time for a rebuild. Kits are available and it's a fairly straight forward process.

Of course there's no better excuse for an upgrade.

Already rebuilt.....just that the star washer is bowed. I banged it straight but I wonder if after it gets this way it's toast? Do I really need this thing
