when i go to start my 85gn it takes a long time to start and when it does i can smell raw gas smell out of the tail pipes and some times it will chug when i floor it it will even out.when it is chugging it does not smoke even when i push on the gas.

Is there any other noises- Do a compression test. You might not be getting spark in a cylinder. Check TPS setting Cam sensor and most of all the coil pack. I can tell you how to do all of these if you dont know.

Turn your ign switch on(motor not running) and listen for the electric fuel pump(should run for about 3 secs)...If you don't hear the fuel pump, then check your fuel pump relay on the pass side fender...It may be bad...There is somekind of relay bypass on these GN/TRs so that when the fuel pump relay goes bad, while cranking it uses oil pressure sending unit to sense enough oil pressure and then triggers power to the fuel pump somehow bypassing the fuel pump relay...All this info is on www.gnttype.org Look through the maintanance section...I think a better explanation is in there somewhere....
That may not the solution, but check it out just in case...Let us know what you find out...Should be easy enough to do...Just listen for the fuel pump to turn on and then shut off after about 3 seconds with ignition on/engine off...

I remember now...The fuel pump relay only turns the fuel pump on to bring the fuel system up to pressure to start it...Once started(and oil pressure is sensed), then the circuit is completed by using the oil pressure sending unit...If the fuel pump relay doesn't work, then as you crank the motor and build enough oil pressure, then when enough oil pressure is reached, the fuel pump is supplied with power to turn it on...That's why it would take a while to start up...That is also why when the motor stalls for some reason, that the fuel pump also turns off because of the loss of oil pressure and the fuel pump then loses power...Make sense now???

relay
i changed the relay and no good.the pump will not come on unles direct wired and the car will not start unless the pump is direct wired anybody know how hard it is to cgange the fuse box i think that may be the problem cus my heater has no power now unless i wire it direct to
