Nothing...I disconnected the torque converter to try and diagnose
a problem then started the engine...the idle stumbled a bit at times but still ran fine...not sure about revving the engine without the tranny...

Flywheel Effect

The engine uses the torque converter to smooth out the pulses at low rpm, like the flywheel/clutch assembly on a strandard trans. It won't hurt it to run without it, though. Will be prone to die when it drops to idle, since the chip doesn't know that the torque converter is not there.

Thanks for the replies.

Seems like the engine might move around a lot because the trans is kinda like another engine mount. Starting the engine without the TC attached, still has the rest of the trans bolted in and holding the engine from the back - interesting about the idle/TC weight thing.
