The car runs like crap with Direct Scan hooked up. Unplug it and everything is fine. The last time I ran with Direct scan, I got error 51 Bad prom code. I cleaned the connections, and made sure the cable wasn't on too far. Anyone else have similar problems. I would like to tune but can't due to all the problems.

I had the same problem when I first installed DS. Turned out to be that the cable was on too far. It has to JUST make contact. I made a spacer out of styrofoam to prevent the cable from going on too far when I put the ecm back in the kick panel. Hope this helps.

Two things to do.
1./ The abopve are indirect good suggestions; I used 2 1/4" square pieces of balsa wood to support the ECM in the bottom of the Grey 'Holder' to prevent it from slamming down on the connector that has to be "not too far in". 2./ The other thing that is friggen mandatory is to ground the cable that runs from the DS 'Box' to the ECM with simple tinfoil or the kit avail from Jack Cotton. Either way, you need to ground that cable to the ECM box...period. Do these 2 things and you'll be able to use the absolute best scan tool avail for the TR.

Direct Scan cable isn't on backwards is it??

Make sure the cable does not touch the rug. We have found that cable touching the rug makes the car hiccup.

Made sure the cable was on right. I will put a spacer on the ECM, as well as under it and see if this helps.
