Hey everyone, i installed a new thermastat in my regular 3.8 regal, no turbo no grand national just a normal motor. I am now having issues with keeping the car running, it will run with me holding the gas pedal down but then if i let up it will simply just back fire and shoot gas out of the top of the carbeurator.
It seems like its misfiring but i never touched the distributor and it has a lot of black smoke coming out of the exahaust as well as some gas i do think it is running rich but i never messed with the carb or the idle!!

I did have to disconnect the hard gas line that comes from the fuel pump into the carb, it has a spring and a gas filter in it which i did replace as well.

im stuck and need some type of guidance please any suggestions let me know!!

Check your EGR valve, make sure it is not stuck open. It should be closed at idle. Make sure your choke is not stuck closed.
