Stock chip vs recall chip

The family turbo T is stock down to the chip installed by the recall in the early 90's. What parameters were changed from the original chip to the new chip that was required by the emissions recall? It seems like the car performed better (less surge) in overdrive after the change, but the idle quality is poorer than it was before the change.
