My car drips about one drop of oil after every drive. It leaks out of the small hole in the inspection cover over the TC area.

I remember hearing of someone putting a sanitary napkin in the cover to absorb the oil.

If so, how often do you change the napkin (ewwww) and how do you keep it from moving around in the cover?

I have the same problem as you.
I assume it is the rear main seal that is starting to go.
I first noticed it when I replaced my trannie..
Shoulda replaced the seal back then.. doh.

It's probably the rear main seal.

My GN did the samething and it turn out to be the rear main seal. I used Felpro's neoprene rear main seal along with a neoprene oil pan gasket made by Victor.

It has not leaked one drop of oil since I did this three years ago. Just make sure when you do this that everything is oil free on the rear main cap. This will assure you that the silicon will adhere properly to the top and sides of the rear main cap... Hope that helps, Nicholas.....

it is the rear main...but

I am hoping for a free (almost) bandaid fix for the time being. I just want to slip a napkin in the shield and change it once a month or less.

Hoping to find someone who has done this and learn what he did and how well it worked.

Eventually I will fix the problem.....just don't want to spend the money on a new seal yet.

Number one I wouldn't feel safe having an oil soaked rag sitting in the inspection cover...not sure how it could happen but any sparks and guess what!!....number two I don't think a rag would fit in there...the flywheel is pretty close to the bottom of the cover...if the rag got loose in there and got caught up in the flywheel...shredded oily rag everywhere...if it's just a drip just live with it until you can fix it...if you're concerned when you park it at home put a piece of cardboard...carpet...etc under it...these motors are oil leakers...eventually they all leak from one place or another... I don't even worry about a few drips anymore...

As far as how to change the, er, sanitary napkin:

1. Use the included cardboard applicator, but take care not to tear the napkin while installing.

2. I prefer Playtex in my TC cover, but opinions may vary.

3. Dispose of the napkin in the proper manner, as my girlfriend does: Leave the damn thing in the toilet, without flushing.

...or if that doesn't work, change the rear main seal.
