street chip?

If you have a 93 octane street chip setup for 17lbs of boost. Say it is running the injectors at 80%dc. What factors are used by the ecm to increase duty cycle if you were to add octane and increase boost?

What I'm getting at, with a typical street chip is it a good idea to use it in race trim, i.e. high octane/high boost?

Thanks,
Mike

Mike,
Unfortunately there is no feedback in the factory setup for boost. The airflow sensor maxes out at about 15psi, so the computer doesn't know if you raise or lower boost above that point.

In other words, if your chip is setup for 17psi, you pretty much have to stay there. Sometimes you can get a little more out of it by increasing fuel pressure, but that could whack out the lower rpm stuff. If you put in race gas, you can probably run a little more boost because it will allow you to go slightly leaner without knock.

Now the Translator/LS1 MAF/Extender combo is a whole other story because it allows the ecm to "see" the extra airflow when you crank the boost up.

Regards,
Eric

And..your fueling at WOT since the MAF is maxed out is a raw deal..you ca run more boost by increasing FP to your hearts content..only problem is increasing FP will cuase your drivability to suffer...since now your idle, cruise, etc..is all rich.

There is no feedback to the ecm for boost. And your "boost" setting is done by adjustments to your fuel tables within the chip.
