I was just curious, I see everyone talking about their engines and transmissions. But I never hear about anything about the driveshaft and back. Do you guys just not worry about it or do you not talk about it? I asked this because mine is starting to howl at 56k and very mild mods...

There are no parts for the 9 bolt. If its howling.. the gears are typically tweaked.

Get a 12 bolt, 9 inch, Dana 44, etc.

X2 .. my new TTA in 89 needed a rear end after 20k miles.. I just didn't understand why

the dealer had to put a rear and a trans after only 5000 miles in mine then i had to bring it back for another rear

dealer did all sorts of work on mine to.. It kept on eating spyder gears ?? they said it was from racing.. I have no idea where they got that  It was my wifes daily driver  I put a 9" in it after 20k miles

Ratech offers parts and are a reputable supplier.
7.750" (9 bolt) GM Axle

There are NOS gearsets out there too, expensive, but available.E-bay is usually a good source for used carriers and new aftermarket gearsets(3.70) as these BW 9 bolts came in a allot of 3rd gen cars, not just TTA's.

Allthough a Dana or Moser 12 bolt,Strange is problem solver for sure it's a $2000-2500+ upgrade, just for the axle.

I guess one has to decide what your intentions are with the car? 10 sec? or 12sec?

I repaired mine that howled and then chunked 2 teeth of the pinion for around $600 labor+parts.

Don't get me wrong? I'd love to upgrade the axle...but I'm not there yet.

There is also tons of reading at 3rdgen.org about this axle and it's problems.
