I just installed a 3'' DP, TT chip, Alky, adj boost controller and Tin Man cold air kit on my stock 86. While installing the tin man I noticed quite a bit of oil in the intercooler and up pipe. I then put the stuff on and took it for a spin. After a couple of hard passes it stumbled. The plastic line on my boost gauge was kinked so I never had an accurate reading, highest it recorded was 20lbs. I think i pushed out a head gasket or 2 and began tear down. However I noticed some major side to side play and a little up and down (no scraping) in the stock turbo. There is caked oil in the manifolds and and oil buildup in the intercooler. Could my turbo have let go and is causing the stumbling and running like crap? There are no other symptoms, no oil in anitfreeze, no excess air exiting breathers and no foam in coolant resevoir. There is oil on the new plugs i just installed and it srill runs like garbage.

Do you still have the stock tube/hose that connects the passenger side breather element on the valve cover to the turbo inlet bell. If so, pull that fucker off and cap the nipple on the turbo inlet bell. I could be a combination of things though but that's an easy place to start. If you had a kinked or broken boost line to gauge and still hitting 20psi on the gauge, who knows what boost you're really pushing.

I wouldn't go tearing things down yet. How about doing a compression test or a leakdown test to confirm headgaskets. Take the intercooler off and flush it out with some brake cleaner. Fix what you got and stay out of the heavy boost.

Is the vent from the front cover to the turbo bell still installed? When you did the install did you clean out oil from the intercooler (all part of the Spring Cleaning)? Is the oil return from the turbo kinked? The seals in the turbo could be leaking oil. That oil will affect the octane rating and as you see foul the plugs all of which will make your car run like a pile of shit. Could be something very simple to fix. Don't just to conclusions a head gasket went.

I do have the breather in the pass vc with a block off. I just bought the car so I will clean out the intwrcooler. I just want to know why that much oil is getting into the intake. The oil is killing the alky.

And that's what I feared. What was the actual boost. I did start with the dial on the adj. Boost cont. At 0

I would contact Bison about rebuilding or upgrading the turbo.
