switching to an aftermarket speedometer

I want to change my gauge cluster with an aftermarket style kind of like the gnx style. What I need to know is that isn't there a speed sensor on the back of the gauge that the cable hooks into? Does the computer need to know what the speed is to run right, because when I ordered my chip I was asked if the speedometer was hooked up. Don't know if it will affect anything in my shifting or anything. Do I need the electric or manual speedometer or does it matter. Does any one sell the plate to mount my gauges on or do I need to make one?

yes you need to do some mods if you plan on having a LU convertor the VSS runs off the optical sensor in the stock dash. there is a way around it. check it out here.
