Anyone have any links/pics/places to get the parts and what to do to re locate my throttle body for the intercooler I'm looking into getting? TIA

at the top of the page are pictures..

you will need two bolt on inlet bells.. you can get them through any vendor.. beyond that you mave to make it all.

So no one sells a kit for it? I don't think I have the resources to tackle a project like this. Is there an easier way?

get propane instead of an intercooler.. cheaper easier accomplishes the same purpose :)

probably cheaper too...

the way to do the intercooler you need..

1. an intercooler
2. figure out a way to mount it
3. mount it
4. reclock turbo
5. buy alumized pipe, and prebent mandrel bends
its alot of work and its one reason why i havent started it.. propane is the other reason

I relocated my TB in 30 minutes. Nothing to it, seriously. Throttle response is incredible. What IC kit are you getting?

howd you do it in 30 minutes? i was looking at it.. and after looking everything over it seemed more involved than i thought it would be.. hell i would relocate it without an intercooler, just to get easier access for the propane

..and that is one less o-ring to leak too..

I had the Spearco IC back then. All I did was cut out a section of piping about the length of the TB stick the TB in there and couple it with the correct hoses and inlet bell. Then I ran a longer throttle cable, hooked up the stock MAF pipe to the turbo inlet 87 style, and that was it. More power, faster spool, and much, much better throttle response. Also, the turbo and intercooler are no longer under vacuum so alky kits for the 87s will work as will bleeder valves. It also makes the famous snorting sound of the IC cars after the relocation. If you blow an intercooler hose it will still be somewhat drivable too.

cool84, I recently came across some pics of your TB relocation...If you want them, I could email them back to ya...

ive got em too.. just looking at the pictures.. i dunno how id move the throttle and tv cables down that much without them binding..

the best *looking* place to put it would be right parallel to the brake booster, but lower.. then you should have to build some kinda header heat shield, but it looks reallly nice and easily accessable in this picture:

I do see one problem with putting it there, Nick...How are you going to check the oil??? Once you get everything plumbed in, it's going to be darn near impossible to check...BUT, I do agree with you, it would *look* the best right there...The other problem with that is, I would use an 86/7 TB instead of the 84/5 TB...The reason being is that the 86/7 TV and throttle cables "pull" from the backside of the TB where the 84/5 TB "pulls" from the frontside...I hope this makes some sense...I went through some trials and errors when I was doing my relocation, and that is a little about what I found out...

the only way to use the 84/5 TB is like cool84 did...Just mount it down lower near the firewall at the back of the intake...That way you don't have to worry about getting any other cables for the TV or throttle or even the mount bracket...The geometry of the bracket alone with the arm on the TB itself needs to be right...The throttle cable isn't really that critical, but the TV cable is...If it isn't right, your tranny will fry, because the line pressure has to increase in the tranny at the right time...If it's too late, you'll burn the clutch packs out, etc...

BTW, is that just a mockup or is someone actually doing that relocation??? Gonna need some really long cables to pull from the front of the 84/5 TB there...

no, thats my car,

yeah i guess it would be hard to check the oil, cause its sitting on the dipstick, hehe. thats how i got it to sit there.. i thought that area would be a REALLY convenient area to have it, as its not squished behind the motor and firewall..

there is about NO room back there, so just having a hard pipe with a soft 90 degree bend coming out of one of the spearco adapters i have (you can see it sitting on the ac compressor), coming forward into a tb (youre right 86/87 woudl work better, and i thought of that when lookin at the pic.. it would be perfect for the cables.. im sure they interchange. are they on the dr side or the passenger side (if it were to be moutned like it is right there) ?

if i do the ic project afterall.. i will hopefully put the tb right there and make some kinda sheetmetal heatshield.. most likely i will wrap all the IC piping in exhaust wrap though, ugly but who cares LOOK AT MY ENGINE BAY ITS ALWAYS UGLY! hehe.. keeps the heat out and the cool in...

The closer the TB is to the intake the better the throttle response will be. Not saying it won't work with the TB near the front of the motor but it's better to have it closer to the intake. That's the main reason for moving it in the first place.

so, do you think it would be worth it just to buy a complete kit that all the thinking/bugs are worked out?

yep :)

there is only one intake that relocates the tb though..

v1 doesnt, an v3 doesnt, just v2

ohhh man, I'm gonna get flamed for this...BUT here it goes...

If you want to put an intercooler on your car, don't waste your time fabricating one in...Just get the 86/7 setup and be done with it...You will spend more time and money screwing around trying to figure out all the little bugs and you may never get them completely worked out...

Trust me on this one...BTDT...I've spent the last two years working on my car(engine rebuild, FM IC install, yada yada yada), and I've had nothing but problems...The 84/5 motors, the way they are set up, are a PITA to work on...The 86/7's are a more efficient design and are easier to work on...Parts availability is greater, etc...

As soon as the weather gets better, mine is coming out and I will just finish the swap...Hell, I'm half way there as it is...

The best thing about it is, you can have the power of the 86/7 setup, and have the cheaper insurance premiums of the 84/5 cars!!!

Flame suit on...

well im gonna go the propane route and we'll see how much boost is possible on pumpgas with propane.

the guy that im buyin the propane from has a friend with a hotair that runs low 7's in the 8th mile.. ive never met him but im gonna :)

I have posted a V2 intake and an intercooler setup with pics on parts for sale board.
Thanks,Dennis
