my friends T-Type is for sale $3k obo
It has 150k miles it has all the little options and everything seems to function properly.(a/c,radio, lights, good tires,)

Now what it needs-paint weather stripping, headliner, body mouldings, carpet, and seat covers might need radiator-

it suppositly ran 13.5 last year at english town!
waddaya think should I pick it up?

I'd go lower miles. That's gonna need a rebuild soon, not to mention if the timing chain hasn't been changed, valve springs, etc. Run a compression check on the engine before you buy at a minimum.

stage 1 performance

well the technician jeff said that its compression was 150 across the board! I have $5k to spend and nobody seems to want to do any bussiness with me I've had a thread open for a while and hardly anyone responds

Look at the Turbo TRader section on gnttype.org. I found my car there. It is great!

my 87 limited has 167k miles on the original motor. only chances to it that i did before racing it and driving it on a regular basis was the timing chain and the valve springs.

my car has run 12.4 on the stock turbo to date.

miles dont matter so much as how it was taken care of.

there are 3 cars in my buick club w/ super high miles on all original motors:

86 GN, 500k original miles

87 GN, 300k original miles

and another TR w/ over 200.

on of the faster cars in the club has over 120 on the original motor, he is runing 12.00 at 113 or so.

so its up to you. do a leak down, or see how it runs. note how well its been taken care of, find out if its had regular oil changes.

if so, it could go for another 100k at least if you keep it tuned (IE, no knocking!)
besides. for 3 grand you cant really go wrong anyways!

I would just keep in mind that with paint and interior, etc you'll be close to spending all of your 5k. Or you could do it on the cheap and leave $1,000 or so for upgrades. For 5k you can get a pretty decent T so I'd compare the value with that.

If he doesn't have all that many upgrades, and thats what you are looking to do, you may be able to find a T with upgraded turbo, injectors, etc in the 5k price range with decent, not perfect, paint and interior. This will save you more money in the long run if that is an issue.

Just something to think about. Paint and interior can be a pretty expensive combo.

before you buy it, i have one that needs paint ans some light bodywork, But has a RPE built steel main capped, forged piston motor,, with p&p heads, Duttweiler cam, ported intake,3"downpipe and exhaust, front mount intercooler, precision pt 52 turbo, 9 inch convertor, 340 fuel pump and more. It is an 87 t crank window, bench seat car, column shift.
It has been sitting for close to 2 years but fires right up and runs good, Needs a better chip and bigger injectors though
because of all the parts i am looking to get 5000 for it. I am going to post it and if i have no offers its getting parted out.
I will be away sun to tues night.
