Hi guys i was wanting to know what would make a turbo start losing metal off the wheel on the air intake side? Ive disassemble the engine, and nothing broke, the headers are not chipping, but the wheel on the turbo has little peices missing, and i just got it from Jack Cotton. It wasnt smoking, and it had no shaft play, but i am going to check the cylinders to see if it done any damage. Im thinking of putting a 4.1 ive had hear for a while, and i dont want the samething to happen again. No screens out of the MAF ive checked everything. Is it possible for the turbo to spin so fast it breaks apart?

Any pics you can give us??

I've seen some comp wheels with bent fins due to compressor surge and most of the time debris or some shaft play is the culprit to your description.

Anyone got any new ideas???

Really need some pictures as mentioned in the thread to identify what kind of damage it is, weather is from debris or otherwise.....If its on the intake side it has to be shafy play or foreign debris....and as mentioned compressor surge, but I have only seen bent fins from surge......There is no connection between the engine and the cold side of the turbo, the air enters the intake tract, gets compressed, enters the intercooler, and then the engine...If there is damage to the wheel you have limited culprits....;)

Sorry for not knowing how to post pics, but my sister is coming over to show me how. I talk to Jack Cotton today, and hes going to let me know how things are going with the trubo. He sounds unsure if they are going to cover turbo under warrenty, i hope thats not the case, the turbos not been run 3 months, and i have no more $$$.
