What all is needed to make my ta-49 really shine I have 60lb injectors aftermarket fuel pump Hotwire kit stock intercooler pipes 2.5 exhaust stock down pipe alky meth kit comp 980 springs stock long block running 18psi at the moment full weight car my question is to make this turbo really wake up the car what else is needed ? What’s the best recipe for maxing the ta-49 and what psi should I be looking for ?
Cam?
Downpipe?
Ported throttle body?
Intercooler?
Converter?

You have all that you need to push that turbo already. At 18 psi and your mod list, your better off with a stock turbo, the TA49 will be way happier at higher boost levels. If you get the boost up to the 25-27 psi range you will see alot more power.

You show Alky on your mod list so you have the octane needed to run much higher boost.

There is no mention of what chip your running, but make sure it is burned for your intended boost levels.

Increase boost slowly and watch your tune closly, tune for zero knock retard. A scanmaster at the bare minimum, preferably a powerlogger and wideband too.

A can is not at all needed.

The stock converter will work well as long as the tune is correct.

Downpipe and intercooler will add some power once your close to maxing out that turbo, not nessessary for where you are right now.

A HD wastegate actuator and a manual boost controller will help adjusted/control boost.

Powerlogger/tuning knowledge. If you're using Erics 5.7 chip it's usually rich in low gear fuel. Getting these cars through the first 330 is everything.

A good set of heads. You'll need to upgrade the transmission. As soon as you throw boost at it, it'll start slipping on the 2-3 shift. Oh, I forgot to tell you you need deep pockets.

So do the stock engines take 25-27 lbs of boost? I know it’s in the tune but that’s not a deadly level for the stock longblock also I have a tt chip sorry didn’t mention that

Its all in the tune and having a solid fuel system, and keeping a close eye on things like AFR, KR, fuel pressure ect.....

Look at the 86 GN in my signature, the TA 60 on my car in 40 degree temps will hit 34 psi, I ran the times in my sig on 32 psi. The car now has 106k on it. Not sure how long it will tolerate it, but so far so good.

Also, my TA 60 is similar to a TA 49, just a 60-1 compressor.
