I have a ta54 and it spools at about 3400 rpm , with a ta49 will i need a stall . I had a ta33 that would light the wheels up if i built some boost at a light , the 54 is dead with the small stall how would the 49 be , could i build boost and jump from the light good with a 1800-2000 stall that is in it now.

one more , how much power would i loss from dropping to the ta49 from the ta54. The 54 does not like any thing under 20psi.

thanks guys:)

TA49 will work good with a stock D5. It will spool around 2200 - 2300 RPM. As far as power loss between it and you TA54, with your relatively stock combo (no head porting), at 20 psi the TA49 will feel like a power increase and it will spool so much quicker. Top end mph potential will drop a little, but I doubt you are close to the limits of the TA54 now (mid 120's) so you probably won't notice the difference.

You really need to do something about the converter, though as 1800 RPM's won't cut it.

i really need to get in the 11's with this set up , i dont care if its 11.99.9:D Do you think that the 49 will take me in the 11's or should i keep the 54 and get a 3200-3500 stall to get me there.

Yeah a stock D5 and TA-49 will support 11's no problem. But why go backwords? I'd get the proper stall convertor and keep the TA-54 on. Truck forward on making your car faster.
