I am not near my car and cant picture how high the tach goes, i am buying an aftermarket one and want to get an extra 1k but cant think of how high the factory one goes.

I believe the factory tach goes up to 6000 with a red-line of around 5,250
So go for 8,000 I guess...Let's just hope you never get that high!!

thanks, and lucky me the 8k rpm VDO 2/1-16 is only 66 bucks with a shift indicator

Make sure that the VDO tach has the square wave mod done to it or it won't work with the Buick ign...VDO does the mod...you have to send it to them...They used to do it for free, but have heard they are charging to do it now...Anyone know how much???
