I'm in the process of restoring an '87 Turbo-T and I'd like to get the body off of the frame safely and without damage. Car has no engine, trans, no front end sheetmetal and the interior is gutted so it should be fairly light BUT I have never done a car to this extent so I'd rather not buckle something by doing something dumb. My garage has plenty of room but I have no lift.

Thanks for any input guys !!!

I've done it a few times just using an engine hoist. Do it one end at a time. Its easy with the front clip removed. After all of the mounts and cables are disconnected use the trunk lid striker as your rear lifting point. Once you get it high enough put your support under it. On the front run a chain down and use the pockets right above the #2 body mount. Lift that end and put the support under the body. I usually use 2 ten foot 4X4 sitting on 4 work horses to support the body. There should be plenty of room to wheel the frame out from under it.

can this be done by taking of the bumpers and leaving the front sheetmetal on and where would it be lifted in the front???

I've done it that way too. You'll have to have the engine and tranny out. And you also have to remove the header panel and radiator support. All you will have left is the the hood and fenders hanging on the tub. Just roll your engine hoist in from the front and use a chain attached to the body on each side above the #2 mounts. What ever you do dont pull the body up from the radiator support. It cant support the weight.
