ok you guys sold me on the te61. my gn is stock so far shes gone 1280s, i want this turbo but will this turbo work with the stock converter? if not what size converter would you recommend.

My stock convertor is a bit laggy for me but still spools fairly quick, ive got a 3400 on the way though.

The great thing about running the stock convertor is that you wont murder your tires.

I just decided to sell my TE-61, extra .85 housing, and compressor housing is polished, took almost 2 hrs. That turbo will build enough boost by power braking to launch pretty hard, I could make 5psi with stock converter, but it took a while. Of course the higher stall converter will decrease spool-up time. Try the .63 housing, then when you get a better converter, try the bigger A/R housing. I want to go into the 10s with a stock motor, I need a bigger hair dryer to force more air. I'm sure if I get heads and a cam, I'd be there, but I'm waiting untill something breaks for motor work.

Turbo is about three months old.

I was at the track for the first time with a TE61 turbo with a T3-31 exhaust wheel and .63 AR housing, and with my 2700 stall convertor was able to build 12# at the line, but only about 10# by the time the tree turned green, so a bit higher stall would help there, but on the street this baby rocks! I did spin the 28x11.5 ET Streets just a bit though in the 60'..best 60' was 1.74 and best 1/8 was 7.411@95.5 and still was pulling hard at the end. In fact by the time I hit 3rd gear to the end of the 1/8, which its far, I added another 24 mph!! This turbo will easy get you to the low 11's without much work. My motor is 100% stock original except for valve springs and timing chain.

I'd say a 3000 stall convertor would be perfect, but may have to go to a bigger exhaust housing then to keep from lighten up the tires....have to try some ET Drags first.
And the times above were with 25-26# of boost and 24 degrees total WOT timing.

How did you change the turbine wheel? It comes with a 69 wheel. Why did you change the wheel. Then pay for labor to cut the turbine housing, right? The new MT drag radials are awsome! Like 1.54 60', lift the tires! I get 1.51 with slicks. 10psi launch.

It was an experimental unit built by one of the manufacturers that I agreed to try out.

I'm using a stock restalled D5 on a BB-65(61mm wheel), with the puck misaligned it still builds enough boost to launch on :D

Im using the stock conv. with a gt-61 ( same as pt-61) and can only build 5 psi on the line. 60 ft sucks with stock conv. get a 3200 and be done for a while.

Sounds like you need to think more of your combination.

Maybe you are spooling up slower than you would like.

However if I'm not mistaken you show 36 PND. injectors.

Might not be enough with a bigger convertor.
Not making a statement. Just a thought.

I had a 49 with ported heads streched intercooler.36 pnd injectors.

Modified stock convertor. Top end 17 pnds.Ran lean.12.18@120mph.

Just a thought...........HTH'ed Rob

I know i need more inj. The times were with a stock turbo and intercooler. Just stating that with a stock conv. my 60ft times suffered and took longer to spool up with the new gt-61. Going with a th-400 and 65 or 72 # inject.

for the te 61

for the te61 go with a 9.5 inch converter at 3200 stall and no more than 2.5 times torque multiplication if you go nore than that you'll lose on the big end

edge racing converters makes one it is reasonable @ 440.00 dollars plus shipping

How can you figure out what torque-multiplication a converter has with it in the car? RPM/mph..? I have a non-lockup, and need 4th gear at 110mph, even with 28"tall tires. 60' is awsome, but I only gain 19mph in the second eighth. I tried a 3.73 rear gear to use more of 4th, but it really was not much difference in any area. I may try a 4.10, and use a lot of 4th gear. Cheaper than labor to take out converter and get it re-stalled. Art Carr said using 4th is one way to go faster. I have much better/more clutches in for 4th.

Sorry to hi-jack this thread!

good question

when you find that one out let me know
as far as i know you need to ask your converter maker only they can tell you :D
