im planning on buying a te61 soon but i dont have enough for a new converter. i just bought a q boost controller so thats supposed to help spool up so would i be able to use the te61and will it be able to spool fast enough for me until i can get a summer job when school lets out?

I would think it would still be driveable. Don't expect to 60 foot anything decent though.

if you get the .85 exhaust housing... it will spool terrible.

I speak from experience.

once I installed the 3500 stall though, it was worth it.

Most TE61's have a 52 exhaust wheel. I've got a special TE61 with a 31E exhaust wheel, a GT61 compressor wheel and with a 2700 stall convertor it works great and can 60' at 1.66. This is a special 61 turbo that PT&E built and may soon start selling. I was very pleased with it. I also tried it on a stock convertor in my TTA, and lag was appearent there as 60's were 2.2 or so with no tire spin, but after the 100' mark you better have a light foot cause it would spin it sideways real quick. This is with a .63 AR exhaust housing.

should i buy a converter first then save up for a turbo? i have a stock turbo now so would it spool to fast with a new converter? also what stall should i get with the te 61

I don't know what 2quick6 is talking about. PTE does not make a TE-61. They call it a PT54, and it has a 69trim turbine, and no GTwheels. That is the same as a Limit TE-61.

I tried a TE-61 on my stock motor, stock converter. It would spool up fine foot braking it, at 7psi it would brake loose the tires. Rolling on the throttle had a small delay, but wasn't too bad.

Try the smaller turbine housing, you'll be OK, untill you can get a converter.
A garrett turbine housing will spool faster than the PTE housing.

turbo2nr: what size turbine housing should i get and is there a place that will take the standard off and put the smaller housing on instead?

I believe PTE only sells GT61 compressor wheels now, this is the standard wheel in their PT61 turbo, but with the 52 exhaust wheel. The exhaust wheel I have was basically an experimental unit that I think works very well for my combination with quicker spool for the 2700 stall convertor. You can probably get one upon request, otherwise the standard PT61 is what is sold.

a PT 54 is the same thing as a TE-61.

You can get a great price from Quad Air (Red Armstrong) Ask for a Garrett .63 housing.
