Temp. reads 230dg at idle

What can cause my temp. to go up to 230dg at idle? it will stay like that until i race my engine a few times then still it would drop to 218dg then it would drop to normal temp. after a few more engine revs... i removed my 160 therm. and installed a 180.. replaced the water pump and still the same thing...the radaitor is from CHARGED AIR any ideas would do

Yes, turns on at 170dg
