most tracks have a "grudge night" type of thing like that- but then most tracks aren't setup on the very same pit road used by the NASCAR teams, either..

Articles like that show how ignorant the general populace is to drag racing. The fact that this is news is evidence of this.

There are NUMEROUS regular events like this across the country yet they report this as though it were a new thing.

One thing I did like about the article is how they gave the estimated number of deaths attributed to street racing in the whole country... a whopping 30!!!

When I put together a post criticizing street racing crackdowns I estimated the total number of deaths at about 161 on average per year in the whole US.

Contrast this with the average number of deaths on the road period, a little over 40,000, 17,000 of which are alcohol related!

Yet we still see massive raids on cruise spots, warrant-less searches of suspected "street racing" vehicles, confiscation (theft) and crushing of cars. We are seeing an assault of massive proportions on anything and anyone involved in the car hobby under the guise of safety.

There you have it, 30 people die each year in the whole country in street races by this latest estimate. What a great excuse for the police.

That's 30 people who died, dingaling...
i'm pretty sure more people die shoveling snow off their sidewalks every year than street racing.
street racing is stupid, but it's kind of like swine flu (or whatever the flu of the week happens to be) in that it is less deadly than the "normal" version by many orders of magnitude.

i think I even heard one of the local radio stations doing play by play of the racing last time I was over there. I'll try to make a trip and get some pix next time I'm over there.

DFW has 6 other Dragstrips. This makes 7... which is why they only got about "100 cars".

The North Fort Worth Area near where TMS is located used to be notorious for Illegal street racing and there is no track within 20 miles... so I guess its a good idea. There are two other tracks within 30 miles, though, so it isn't like there is absolutely no where to race legally.
