Articles like that show how ignorant the general populace is to drag racing. The fact that this is news is evidence of this.
There are NUMEROUS regular events like this across the country yet they report this as though it were a new thing.
One thing I did like about the article is how they gave the estimated number of deaths attributed to street racing in the whole country... a whopping 30!!!
When I put together a post criticizing street racing crackdowns I estimated the total number of deaths at about 161 on average per year in the whole US.
Contrast this with the average number of deaths on the road period, a little over 40,000, 17,000 of which are alcohol related!
Yet we still see massive raids on cruise spots, warrant-less searches of suspected "street racing" vehicles, confiscation (theft) and crushing of cars. We are seeing an assault of massive proportions on anything and anyone involved in the car hobby under the guise of safety.
There you have it, 30 people die each year in the whole country in street races by this latest estimate. What a great excuse for the police.
