I recently had a clicking problem when my tranny was in 1st gear, when it hit second it would stop. i just kept driving it, and now, when i floored it the other day, it wouldnt go into 2nd gear, it just skipped it, and made some noise, and now it skips second gear every time. no more clicking noises, but no 2nd gear in D. if i hold it in 1st, then go to L2, it will go into 2nd smoothly, then when i go into 3rd, it will click and go into 3rd. it operates fine, shifts nice and firm like its supposed to, but it wont go into 2nd. the 1st gear whine is getting on my nerves at 20mph. thanks

The intermediate sprag is dead. This is found on the outside of the direct drum, right behind the pump. Continued operation will inevitably result in severe damage to the pump and converter. This is the main weak point of the 350. A cheap upgrade is the TCI heat reated intermediate sprag outer race and a new sprag from Delco. The ultimate upgrade is a specially machined drum that uses an intermediate sprag from a 400. Very pricey, and not really worth it. It's cheaper to install a 400 and be done with it.

well, aint that a @#%ch. Thats what ive shattered the past 3 times with this tranny. worked fine till the shift kit. then, it shattered the sprag. and when it went into 2nd, it would just like, pull the car down to a halt and kill the motor. got it rebuilt, 2nd day, broke the sprag again, which sucked, got it rebuilt under warranty, then, now its got 2500 miles, but has been 1 year, and it breaks again. wtf?? is it just that TH350s suck? or is it the rebuilders fault? im thinking a TH200 4R from a GN would be the way i would go, and ill sell this peice of crap tranny to someone who wants to replace the sprag again. im not ready for another 500 dollars to have it fixed.

if you have any suggestions, let me know

It's obvious that a 350 isn't going to live for you. Sounds like you have too much 2nd gear in your shift kit. In other words, take some 1-2 shift feel out and it might live. A good 400 should last without the hassle and B.S. It will cost you half what a 200 4R will. But it won't have OD.

Like Alan said, perhaps your 2nd shift is a bit much. A heat-treated race coupled with a 2nd gear wave plate and a spring in the accumulator may calm things down enough.

One of those fancy TCI drums would cure it. :D

But in the unit you have sprag is dead like they said.
Green eggs and ham:D

Nope, not if they are built and dialed in right. I ran a 575 HP pro streeter with one that was reliable. That was in a heavy weight car too. The guys are telling you right that you have too hard of a shift. The plus side is they are also cheap to rebuild.

might be cheap compared to a 2004R, but they are still expensive, 500 dollars a pop on a high school student budget isnt very cheap to me. i know that the 200 in my Ttype works great, hasnt given any trouble, and is behind so much more power than the GS has. the GS is heavy, like, 4100 pounds. but, i think if i get a 200 it wont break on me. thats probably what ill do, anyone done this swap before? thanks
