well...i've had alot of experence with gsx mitzu's....Number 1...they are not reliable, they are down right quirky. Timing belts are a big issue..if they snap, you bend valves and can break pistons.. the transmission are legendary weak, especially if you hammer on them. also, oil leaks, and lifters are a problem...these cars can be made fast, but have a AAA card handy for tows,BTW,a GSX has to be flatbeded to tow..

They're only unreliable if you don't keep up on them.

Do the normal maintenance and you'll be fine.

The 90's are a little different from the rest of the 1G's (90-94). Biggest differences are the throttle bodies and ECU's. The 90-91 cars have the weaker rear end (3 bolt vs a 4 bolt in 92-94's).

Best site for info is probably,
http://www.vfaq.com/index-main.html

... I've owned one for two years now (91 Talon TSi) the only thing that has broke has been a wheel bearing, an alternator and a ball joint.

If you buy it do a timing belt imediatly if it goes it bends all the valves. If the trans has been abused and its a manual the second gear sycro's will be rough. There not bad cars but most let the timing belt go and its a big bill no different than any other import.

Well guys, I backed out at the last minute (right as i was handing money over!!!) what are some cars that are reliable and get good gas milage at the same time?

thanks,
Joshua
