i saw that one

i went to Full throttle and bought a RJC close out for 40.00.
works great lets my tl40 turbo spool up fast.
i have an intrenel wastegate and its progessive so it starts to open went i get on it at about 5psi. this little controler keeps the waste gate closed till it hits 18psi then lets the wastegate open.

I'm trying one right now. I'm still tweaking it out... I can't get the boost spike out of it. I've reset the unit back to the base settings per the instructions twice but not having much luck yet.

That's usually the sign of a bad controller. I had a no-name MBC start spiking like that then it just died and wouldn't go over 15#.

I have used one exactly like this on two 91 TSI Talons, both are still functioning well after many years.
eBay Motors: NXS MANUAL BOOST CONTROLLER TURBO ECLIPSE WRX TALON MBC (item 250046930320 end time Nov-07-06 19:18:23 PST)

I have the original Joe P on my GN that is also doing the trick.

I personally would not spend $40 on a controller that is doing the exact same thing as this $7 one.

Boost spike is generally because your exhaust housing hole is not exhausting the pressure quick enough. These controllers are fast and if your exhaust hole is not rounded off on the inside and made larger following the carbon ring it is going to be tough to get it to sit still.

I get 1/2 psi of spike on my TA 49 at 22-23psi.

so the ebay one sucks? what makes a group of brass fittings work better than other ones? im lost. and, if youre experiencing some boost creep, OR boost spikes, the mbc's help this problem right? can one have both creep AND boost spikes?

also, whats the advantage to ALLL of your boost coming on all at once? dont you want it progressive so that your tires dont go up in smoke?? i cant imagine my 17 lbs of boost coming on alll at ONCE. my tires would just start on fire... i dont get it. now you would have to REALLY roll slowly into the throttle now... educate me please.

also, do these things take the place of our stock boost control selenoid?

Yes, you run a hose off the compressor housing to the aftermarket controller, and from the other end of the controller to the accuator I believe? It's been a while and I'm to lazy to go look at my MBC lol

As for boost spikes, there is a few of us running aftermarket MBC and still having boost spikes. So far the only solid thing I know of to fix it is with an external wastegate and MBC. But don't quot me, there could be other ways of doing it.

Having the boost come in all at once is a good thing, more power sooner.
If you are smoking the tires then address the traction issue and plant it all to the street, problem solved and more power to the ground sooner.

Most brass MBC's now have the small venting hole and stainless ball inside. Nothing too special here which is why they are cheap now unlike years ago.

Most issues with boost creep and spike are due to the turbine housing setup and not the controller. The controller does not bleed off pressure like the factory solenoid does hence causing the issues above that were masked before by the stock solenoids slow response etc.
