I have a thread request from all you tranny guru's out there.... it can be experience based.... on what works... what is needed... and what is "overkill" for the given goal. It needs to be like the engine recipe's. Example:

11 sec lockup
11 sec non lockup

10 sec lockup
10 sec non lockup

These are mere suggestions... input from Bruce, Chris, Brian, Etc.... would be very valueable.

This thread/s could make a great sticky if it is done right....It might have to be broken into several threads.... like a 11 and 10 sec "lockup" thread includes 2 separate buildups... and then a non-lockup 11 and 10 sec buildup.... or 11 sec lockup and non-lockup buildup.... then 10 sec lockup and non-lockup buildup... It might even could be an 11 sec non-lockup buildup.... then state the additional parts and/or changes to receipe if you were to run a lockup.

There seems to be a wealth of tranny info in this forum... and the sticky bruce created is priceless... but this will also fit a niche.... that IMHO.... needs filling.

Sounds like a good idea to me. It would probably help reduce the amount of questions the "trans guys" get about "what components do I need strengthened for my goal". Turbo Buick engine "recipes" have been around forever, giving a basic run-down of what parts will get you to what horse power or track ET, I'm sure it would be helpful for the transmission too.

Yea... the info is basically here... you just have to use the "search" thingy.... LOL

I think it would be helpful if the right people put a comprehensive thread together.... based on "today's" ideas on what works and what isn't necessary....

Bruce's great sticky cover's how it works... and a wealth of info on the 2004R... but started back in '02......

The newest info available.... and the "recipe" format... would be new to our tranny forum.... and should help alot of people like myself.... staring at the budget.... and my goals.... and wondering what I "really" need.

A simple and uniform way to format the "recipes" could be to use one common list of transmission components for every recipe and next to each component simply mark as "stock", "modify", "upgraded replacement", "billet replacement", etc.

10 second car lock up or non lock up,billet drum,od carrier, ring gear and input shaft.11 second car lock up or non lock up billet forward drum mandatory ,carrier/ ring gear / shaft less likely to fail but still 50 percent chance of failure at different times.ive made the drums cheaps enough for all and of strength equal to or greater than the others so there really is no excuse not to have them.

Not a bad idea. Just so many options with different converters and peoples budgets.

I agree. Most times I build a particular trans for what's on the car for parts..... People will tell ya they want it for an 11 sec car. I ask what's on it for parts and they tell me their 9 sec combo....... :)

FLW, "But it's only gone 11.90 @ 113" ;)

What works for some, doesn't for others. Dual fed and 6 clutches have worked really well for me into the 9s. I have seen plenty of direct drum set ups and have come up with my own that works for me. Be pretty cool to check out the new set up Chris has coming out. Def sounds like it should handle some serious abuse.

Interesting thread...

I'm about to order a 200-4R from "someone" who is yet undecided. The big question is what I need to survive the rigors of street use in a full weight g-body (MCSS) and in back of a 540 Merlin low compression "street" motor (580HP/595TQ), a loose nut behind the steering wheel with a heavy right foot.

IMHO, you can never "overbuild" something...

IMHO, you have come to the right place for advice. There are people on here running 2004R's that are making well in excess of the HP and TQ you are talking about (with a 231 cubic inch 6 cyl ...... sorry  ... had to throw that in there :D )

Off the top of my head....Grumpy regularly thrashes (on the street and the track..... and to use Grumpy's words..... "hey.... it is a driver....") on "Melissa's" car that has gone high 9's on pump gas... and alky.... with a 2004R and a lock-up converter.

Lee Thompson has one behind a stage powered street car.... 10.0's at nearly 140 mph.... on a 2004R with a lock-up.

Good luck... and keep us posted....

Hey... dont get me wrong... I LOVE my TR... but sometimes it attracts the wrong kind of attention. :frown:

Plus... I was raised with BBCs... and nothing pleases my ears more than the healthy rumble of V8 power... Except for a TR eating one up with a little more than a whistle...

I like 'em both... so what the heck.... why not HAVE both?

For street manners....I'll take the TR... hands down...

For the non car guys they cant tell the cars apart anyway!

Oh yeah... the Merlin will be running a little bit of spray...
