I've used the speed pro lifters and the car sounds like a sewing machine, that ticking is not normal, if it's getting better it's because the chunk of dirt that was in it has cleared or something like that.

Hope it all works out.

Glad to hear that it's getting better.

Mine still does it. Always has. I don't let it bother me. Yeah, sometimes it sounds like a crap while I am sitting there idling at the red light but that just makes it all the more better. Makes it sound less intimadating. Then I put the hurt on em.

It has been my experience that the sewing machine sound is caused by choices made in the valvetrain combo, i.e. cam, lifters, valve springs, etc. and/or by incorrect preload. I had two cams which made a lot of noise. I finally installed , Champion heads, a cam which is notoriously quiet, and the sewing machine noise is gone. In fact, once I learned to correctly measure preload and selected the best cam, and the proper lenght of pushrod, I have the quietest engine I have ever had in any car.

Was your engine making the ticking engine noise on that run vs the C6?

Yes but you can't hear it unless I am at idle and near the car.

That makes me feel better. Mine is only in gear @ about 1500 2000 rpm I also get random knock at cruise around 2K rpm. Car run fantastic otherwise and is quiet at idle. With a stethescope I can hear ticking from the cam sensor cap so I'll replace that over the winter. Off to the track in a few weeks. :)

It's ticked for over three years now. Car gets faster and faster the more I play with it. Oil is clean, good hot oil pressure. I'm not worried about it.

I am trapping 115 now with the stock motor. I have a set of Champion Irons ready to go on.

was reading your post, and mine is ticking or rapping near rear of engine where TC connects. It just started doing this and is louder when inspection cover is off. Car seems to run good but i do have a rich condition that i can't figure out (hi-o2's 830-860 @wot/no knock). I also have gassy odor to engine oil.

I have a knock as well. coming from the same area that yours was the loudest at. the torque converter area. was running 10w30 with the pf52 filter, and another half qt. of oil... for about a year,, then the knock came about. it got louder and louder then i switched to 20w50 with the same filter... and it never masked the noise. fact it got louder over the last month, so i switched out to the standard 5 qts of 10w30 with the proper length pf47 filter, and it got quieter. then i decided to take my inspection cover off to see if my tc bolts were tight. they were... but when i started her back up, the noise was SIGNIFICANTLY quieter.. Im assuming cuz there wasnt such of a 'concert hall' effect goin on anymore, since the plate was off. the noise is still there though, just as loud as it was before. its just not as amplified by the cover anymore....but still there ... :( mine sounds JUST like yours. im betting big money its rod knock.

Its not a rod Knock my D5 convertor made the same dumb noise when I change to my pats Perf. 10" the sound is gone gone gone its comming from the inside of the converter. when they pulled the old one out and flushed it there was a ton of dirt in it. The Shop I took it to had no idea how it could have gotten in it but there it was and was not like big metal stuff either it was very small. They said they thought that the bearings in were bad so I just tossed it and got a new one.

Anyway Just what I had happen to me hope it helps some of you :)

How do you disconnect the torque converter from engine? i want to narrow it down to what it might be (converter or engine). I tried to loosen the three bolts but the flywheel turns. is there a way to keep flywhell from turning? I know that there is some sort of tool to grab teeth, but i'd rather not spend money if there is alternative way to keep it from turning. ALSO: once three bolts are eventually removed, how do i move the converter away from flywheel? Do you just pry it away w/ a pry bar?

Hmmm , I went out last night to start it up and let it heat soak in the driveway while cleaning out garage in peparating for montes winter hybernation . I want to hear it tick ! It was cold ( near freezing ) though so I couldn't recreate the Aug weather conditions like in the video in the first post ,Temp barely reached 160 if that. Anyhow, it sounds alright although I have little experience with lc2's as this is my first so I have nothing to baseline. ( I know how to tell if it has a wiped cam... but thats a story for another thread ) Seems that the motor is still breaking in. My oil is too heavy for these temps so it may be masking a problem, hopefully not. Intresting thread so far, I've learned alot, thanks to all who replied.

You would have to pull the trans to disconect safely without damaging the converter or flexplate.
I am tellin ya though my car had the same lame sound and it was the D5 converter :(
They come apart after the are beat on hard and thats why everyone changes them out.

Just came back from a night cruz. Damn sound is still there coming from tc area. Not as bad as I remember a while back. Motor sounds ok. Im going to have to live with it. No coin left to throw at car for a while. Seems to be common from some folks on this tread . Bad D5 tc ?? I may start a thread in trans section. Great advice / direction from many. Thanks.

Get under the thing with a drop/flashlight and look at the flexplate. Mine was making the exact same noise and the flexplate was cacked from the bolts out to the adjacent holes in the flexplate. Check it and rule that out...heck of alot easier than pulling the valve covers and such.

FYI...Ive had Vettes with cracked flexplates also exhibit this noise. Hope that is it.

Thanks . ??? Is it possible to crack from improper torqued bolts ( overtorqued ) or metal fatigue? Was ok with old engine. Started this racket after fresh block installed.
