Ticking in valve train comes and goes.

Everything was set by my builder on original rebuild. I have had heads of twice and once on reinstall I bent two push rods when I did not get them in straight. I'm pretty sure I got the same lengths. I could have gotten a couple switched or something. It definitely sounds like it's the lifter. What do I do at this point? Pull valve covers and check? If preload is off, do I have to pull heads? Could oil pressure be the pump? I did get a new cover from ta performance when I did rebuild.
